Charter of Functions

The Training Advocate will continue to support clients or prospective clients, including international students, with their questions or concerns about the education and training system. The Training Advocate will carry out functions described in a Charter in accordance with Part 2 Division 4 Section 21 of the Training and Skills Development Act 2008 (the Act).

The Charter was developed by the Minister for Employment, Training and Further Education in consultation with the Training Advocate and the Training and Skills Commission. The Training and Skills Commission is also established under the Act.

The Training Advocate’s functions are contained in the Act which include:

  • Promoting higher education, vocational education and training and adult community education in the state
  • Promoting employment and skills formation
  • Independent complaint handling process 
  • Advocacy 
  • Information and advice 
  • Monitoring the training system.
