Appointment of the Training Advocate

Renee Hindmarsh was appointed as Training Advocate by His Excellency the Governor of South Australia for a term of five years commencing on 4 February 2019 pursuant to the Training and Skills Development Act 2008 (SA).

The Office of the Training Advocate is the main public contact point for information about the training system in South Australia.




The office:

  • Provides an independent, individually tailored advice service
  • Promotes participation in employment and training
  • Monitors the system to raise the quality and responsiveness of the training system
  • Where appropriate investigates complaints or refers them to the relevant authority.

Ms Hindmarsh has an extensive background in senior executive and advisory positions in higher education and the Commonwealth Government.

Prior to her appointment as the Training Advocate, she held the role of Executive Director of the Australian Technology Network of Universities where she promoted stronger collaboration between universities and industry to improve graduate outcomes.

Mrs Thérèse O’Leary previously served as Training Advocate, retiring on 3 February 2019.
